Nigeria Customs intercepts container load of arms in Lagos Port.

The container intercepted by the Nigeria Customs Service on Tuesday at the Tin Can Island port, Lagos, was loaded with 440 arms and ammunition of various sizes and designs, the Nigeria Customs Service has said.
Monday Abue, Zonal Commander, Tin Can Island Command, said the container with registration number PONU 210024/1 was shipped from Turkey and routed through the Lagos port.
Mr. Abue said “The consignment was declared as Plaster of Paris by the importer, adding that it was intercepted by the Customs based on intelligence report and that investigations were ongoing to uncover the shipper,the intercepted 440 pieces of pump action rifles were manufactured in the United States of America and Italy.
“They are pump action rifles of various designs and also the single barrel device that you are familiar with.
“We have arrested one defendant but due to security reasons, we don’t want to make it public for now because such information could hamper investigations which are still ongoing,the container was impounded at the Ports & Cargo Terminal, inside the Tin Can Island port”.
“The truck carrying the container came out from Ports & Cargo gate before it was stopped at the second gate by Customs officials”.

Customs Reconstitutes New Management, Appoints 4 Ag DCGs

The Nigeria Customs Service has reconstituted its management and announced some key appointments to rejig the service toward greater efficiency.
The Public Relations Officer, Mr Joseph Attah, announced this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Attah the service has appointed four Acting Deputy Comptroller-Generals (DCGs) and seven Acting Assistant Comptroller-Generals (ACGs) to re-engineer the management for efficient service delivery.
While re-constituting the new team, Attah said that the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali, also approved the deployment of eight Comptrollers.
He said that the new management members include Mr Alu Robert, ACG Traiff and Trade now Acting DCG Tariff and Trade; Mrs Olubiyi Ronke, ACG FATs now DCG HRD; ACG E.I.I Dangaladima Aminu now Acting DCG E.I.I; and ACG Iferi Patience SR&P now Acting DCG SR&P and ACG ExFTZ&I.I Chidi Augustine to Acting DCG ExFTZ&I.I.
Other appointments were Comptroller Investigation Hamza Ladan now Acting ACG FAT; Comptroller VAL Ekekezie Kaycee to Acting ACG T&T; Comptroller FOU Haruna Mamud to Acting ACG E.I.I; CAC ED/DT Mrs Sarki Umar now Acting ACG Ex.FTZ&I.I, and CAC Mrs Enwereuzor Francis now Acting ACG SR.
CAC FCT Dahiru Aminu was also promoted to Acting ACG Zonal Coordinator, while DCG Umar Abubakar who was formally in charge of Tariff and Trade was deployed to Finance, Administration and Technical Services.
Attah said that the customs boss has charged the appointees to bring their experiences to bear in the administration of the service.
“The modest achievements of the ongoing reform agenda in the areas of revenue generation, anti-smuggling operations and trade facilitation must be sustained and improved upon in the interest of the nation,” Attah said.

Customs generated over N95.7bn in August


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Saturday in Abuja said it generated over N95.7 billion in August.
The NCS Public Relations Officer, Mr Wale Adeniyi, said in an interview with news men that the revenue had been remitted to the Federal Government coffers.
Adeniyi expressed satisfaction that the NCS generated the amount in spite of the current foreign exchange challenge and low imports.
“Last month, August, 2016, the service recorded the highest revenue in 10 years despite the forex difficulty, low imports and general economic downturn.
“This points to the efficacy of the comptroller-general’s policy thrust.

Customs impound contraband valued at N250 million



The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, Lagos, intercepted contraband with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of 186.9 million between July and August, 2016.
The Controller of the unit, Comptroller Umar Dahiru, said this on Tuesday in Lagos.
Dahiru said that the unit through its interventions recovered N63.5 million from vehicles and other goods, due to under-payment, undervaluation and false declarations.

He said that these cumulatively translated to N250.4 million in the two months under consideration.
“Within July and August 2016, about 225 different seizures were recorded, comprising foreign parboiled rice, frozen poultry products, fairly-used vehicles popularly known as `Tokunbo’, and various general merchandise,’’ Dahiru said.
He said that 23 suspects had been apprehended in connection with the seizures.

Tin-can Island Customs generates N26.2bn in August





For the Month of August 2016, the Tin-Can Island Customs Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) generated N26.2 Billion revenue. According to the command, the figure represents a positive signal “going by the indices of the previous month”.

It will be recalled that the Customs Area Controller of the command, Comptroller Bashar, Y. U had expressed his determination to Institute operational reforms and policies that will guarantee maximum revenue collections.
Some of the measures, according to a statement issued by the Command Spokesman, Uche Ejesieme on Monday includes creating the necessary awareness on the stakeholders towards complying with the Federal Government’s Fiscal Policies in terms of trade.
